Norn Iron, 2018 looks at my father’s birthplace of Northern Ireland. The project draws from my familial archive to investigate the relationship between identity, time and place. Once a landscape and society in turmoil, Northern Ireland has most commonly been comprehended through the gaze of the The Troubles. Responding to my family’s photographs of holidays, parades, parties and everyday life in and around Belfast, this project is more concerned with connecting the past, present and future of the landscape to understand its current cultural identity as well as and my own.
